Aviation Week’s William Garvey sat down with Talaat Captan, founder and CEO of Air Hollywood, for a wide-ranging interview about his love of aviation and how it turned into a business.
Captan explains how the frustration of shooting Ground Control at a working airport led him to create a studio where aviation scenes could be filmed without the restrictions of a real terminal. He describes the studio’s warehouses, which hold real cabins and flight decks from aircraft including the 747, 767, 737 and MD-80, and its track record of serving hundreds of clients, from major studio features and TV series to commercials, music videos and student films.
He also talks about the technical accuracy that goes into the sets, noting that one production was realistic enough to be used by an airline to train pilots in air traffic control communication.
